Cyber security is no longer just an IT issue. Across the APS and broader public sector, staff at every level are expected to understand security risks, apply sound judgement, and take action when something looks wrong.
ICTICT424 Address Cyber Security Requirements gives you the practical knowledge to do exactly that. You will learn to identify cyber security threats and vulnerabilities, apply security controls relevant to your role, and respond appropriately to incidents. The unit covers the policies, legislation, and frameworks that shape how government agencies protect their systems and data, including the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM) and the Essential Eight.
This unit is well suited to APS staff undertaking digital uplift training, team leaders managing ICT systems or vendor relationships, and operational staff whose work involves sensitive data or government platforms. It aligns with the Digital Transformation Agency's capability uplift priorities and supports agencies working toward Essential Eight maturity targets.
No prior cyber security qualification is required. The unit is designed to be practical and role-relevant, not technical for its own sake.
