Description

The ICTCYS406 Respond to Cyber Security Incidents unit equips learners with the skills to manage and respond effectively to cyber security incidents in the workplace. The course covers essential topics such as identifying cyber threats, implementing incident response strategies, and mitigating risks to organisational systems and data. Learners will explore the process of incident detection, including using tools like intrusion detection systems (IDS) and security information and event management (SIEM). They will also learn how to develop incident response plans, respond to breaches, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The course emphasises the importance of legal compliance, including the Privacy Act 1988 and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, and focuses on containment, eradication, and recovery from security incidents.

In addition, the unit covers root cause analysis, system restoration, and post-incident reporting to prevent future incidents and improve overall cyber security resilience. Learners will be trained in incident documentation, risk assessment techniques, and post-incident reviews to identify lessons learned.
